Elizabeth Hromada’s early years fostered empathy, compassion, and connection with the natural world. She earned her B.S. at UNC-Asheville in Environmental Studies, and found the joy of sharing the wonders of nature with young children during an internship at the WNC Nature Center. In 2004, she worked as an AmeriCorps volunteer for an environmental education NPO, serving teachers in discovering ways to bring love for the Earth to their students. During this time, Elizabeth was introduced to the work of Rudolf Steiner, and she knew this was a significant introduction.
Elizabeth then moved to Arizona, and her family of 3 began. After the birth of her daughter in 2007, the path of Waldorf education lit up before her. In the beginning of motherhood, Elizabeth held a child care program in her home for infants and toddlers. She later worked as an assistant teacher in the home-based Red Earth Waldorf Kindergarten & Preschool. Under the mentorship of the program’s founder, Elizabeth began working as a lead teacher while training in Waldorf Early Childhood Education at Rudolf Steiner College.
Also during this time, along with her husband and a small community of parents, Elizabeth co-founded Running River School, a Grades program based in Waldorf pedagogy.
In 2016 she completed her teacher training and moved with her family to Asheville, joining the Asheville Waldorf School as an Early Childhood teacher. She has worked as both a kindergarten and nursery teacher at AWS, and continues her journey through various continuing education platforms and self-study in pursuit of deepening her understanding of child development and humanity as a whole. Elizabeth enjoys singing, dancing, cooking, poetry, and connecting with nature, human beings, and her inner world.
