ERIKA CARRELL

Erika’s Waldorf journey began when she started attending parent and child class in 2012 at the Waldorf School of Garden City (WSGC) in New York with her 2 year old son. She had been a physical therapist since receiving her Masters from Quinnipiac University, but before she had her son made a career switch and obtained a Master’s degree in teaching from Stony Brook University.  Erika realized after a short while of being immersed in the nourishing Waldorf community, that this was the path of teaching she was being called to travel.

Erika wore many hats at the WSGC as an intern, substitute and assistant in various early childhood classrooms. She finally felt she had found her true passion in life, a feeling she never experienced but always craved in her many years working as a physical therapist. She decided to pursue this path of lifelong learning and after completing a two year anthroposophical foundations course in 2017, enrolled in the Waldorf early childhood teacher training program at Sunbridge Institute.  Erika graduated with her certificate in July 2022.

She and her family moved to Western North Carolina in March of 2021 and  are all thrilled to be a part of the strong and loving Waldorf community here. Her children attend AWS and are in kindergarten, 5th and 7th grades. Her husband, Brad, is also the games and gardening teacher for the grades.  She is so grateful for the amazing opportunity and gift to learn from the children,  to help nurture them, and to be a part of educating families through their own Waldorf journeys.
